WED, MAY 8:vocab: periphery/peripheral. Looked at examples of introduction and conclusion. Then worked on Bibliography on page 10 in the packet. HW for THURS: be ready to type tomorrow!

WED, APRIL 24: vocab review for our quiz on FRI. Discussed/shared our posters from the Pandora reading. Read "Cupid and Psyche" as a class and began our summary sheet for this story. HW FOR THURS: SSR.

Wednesday, Dec 19:vocab--scapegoat. We looked at page 11 in the packet, and also we looked at pages 12/13. When looking at page 12/13, we also looked at the model introduction (see model paper in Document Manager). Most students worked on page 11 in the packet, some continued on to work on pages 12/13. Tuesday, Dec 18:vocab--revere. We reviewed briefly how to cite a quotation and looked at Ms. D's examples on the board. Then we began writing body paragraph 2 (page 10 in the Miracle Worker packet). HW for WED: Page 10 is due WED!

Monday, Dec 17:vocab--lethargic. Wrote in Monday planners. Looked at how to cite quotes (see notes on how to cite in Document Manager). Then applied this to page 9 in the yellow Miracle WOrker packet. HW for TUES: page 9 in the packet.

Monday, Oct 15:Grammar--to,two,too. Monday planners. Went over pages 4,5,6,7,8,and 9 in the speech packet. Students worked on getting their speech topics officially approved by Ms. D. HW For Tuesday: "Right Words at the Right Time" paper is Due AND Adult checklist. 

Friday, Oct 12:Grammar--its vs it's. Talked about expectations for the speech unit (qualities of a good speech giver, and qualities of a good speech listener). Then we prepared for our first mini speech and presented them. Then we finished the hour by continuing to work on page 4 in the speech packet. HW for TUES: typed paper and adult checklist.

Thursday, Oct 11:Grammer--its vs it's. Introduced speech unit and gave examples from last year. Worked on page 3 and 4 in speech packet. HW for FRI: Finish the paper organizer

Wednesday, Oct 10:Skipped bell ringer. Worked on "Right Words" paper. HW: Keep working on the paper. The paper organizer is DUE on FRI. The final paper is DUE on TUES with adult checklist.

Tuesday, Oct 9: Grammar--its vs it's. Worked on "Right Words" paper. HW: keep working on the paper, you will have time in class tomorrow as well!

Monday, Oct 8: Grammar--its vs it's. Wrote in planners for Monday. Read examples of paper and introduced paper assignment. HW for TUES: Page 1, box (on the paper packet)

Friday, Oct 5:Took Outsiders Test and then had independent reading time. HW: NONE! BUT keep up with your SSR reading contracts.

Thursday, Oct 4:Took vocab quiz and then corrected. Talked about banned books and S.E. Hinton as an author. Read her author interview at the end of the novel. HW: be ready for Friday's Outsiders test. 

Wednesday, Oct 3:vocab--reviewed for Thurs vocab quiz. Finished the Outsiders movie. HW: be ready for the THURS vocab quiz and FRI OUtsiders test.

Tuesday, Oct 2:vocab--reviewed for Thurs vocab quiz. Finished reading the entire book and did the "Bringing it all together" last page in our blue packet. HW for WED: Finish the study guide blue packet. Be ready for THURS vocab quiz and FRI Outsiders test.

Monday, Oct 1:Vocab--ramification. Wrote in Monday planners and went over the study guide for chapters 8,9. Reading chapters 10,11. HW for the week: Be ready for THURS vocab quiz and FRI Outsiders test.

Friday, Sept 28:Vocab--grandiose. Did a discussion about heroism and turned in their discussion sheets. HW for MON: Chapters 8,9 in study guide AND keep up with SSR.

Thurs, Sept 27:Vocab--deduce. Discussed study guide questions for chapters 6,7. Watched a film clip of the book. HW for MON: Chapters 8,9 in study guide AND keep up with SSR.

Wednesday, Sept 26:Vocab--forsake. Worked on chapter 7. HW for THURS: chapters 6 and 7 reading and study guide. Also keep up on SSR. 

Tuesday, Sept 25:MAPS test today, no class work. HW for THURS: Read chapters 6 and 7 and do study guide. Also keep up with SSR reading.

Monday, Sept 24:vocab--cower. Wrote in planners for the week. Did SSR book clubs. Read chapter 7. HW for THURS: Read chapters 6 and 7 and do Study guide. 

Friday, Sept 21:vocab--abhor. Went over study guide questions for chapter 4-5. Discussed expectations for a "modern connections" discussion. And then...had our first modern connection discussion. HW for MON: Keep up with your SSR reading log and be ready to tell a partner about what you are reading.

Thursday, Sept 20:vocab--unceasing. Turned in yellow character poems. Finished chapter 4 and analyzed/took notes on the "Nothing Gold Can Stay" poem. Also discussed how the poem pertains to the novel so far. HW DUE FRI: chapter 4-5 in study guide (DW)

Wednesday, Sept 19:vocab--hastily. Read and discussed chapter 3/4. HW due THURS: your character poem (UW). Also keep up with SSR reading logs.

Tuesday, Sept 18:vocab--gloat. Discussed expectations for the character poem and looked at examples. Watched a part of the Outsiders film and discussed major parts. HW: Character Poem is due on THURS (UW) and keep up with SSR reading logs.

Monday, Sept 17: Vocab--gallantly. Wrote in planners and discussed study guide questions for chapters 1 and 2. Began reading/discussing chapter 3 HW: SSR reading logs

Friday, Sept 14: Vocab-- unseemly. Reviewed characters, and introduced new ones. Began reading chapter 2. HW: Chapters 1 and 2 are DUE on Monday, along with the study guide questions. (DW) 

Thursday, Sept 13:Vocab--sheepishly. Discussed characters from the book. Began reading chapter 1 together. HW: SSR.

Wednesday, Sept 12: Vocab--nonchalant. Turned in green Mulan packets. Began working on Outsiders packet and discussing stereotypes. HW: keep up with reading logs 

Tuesday, Sept 11:Vocab--consensus. Finished the rest of the movie. As a class discussed symbol, plot, setting, and theme. HW: Finish the rest of the Mulan packet for tomorrow AND there will be a binder check tomorrow! 

Monday, Sept 10:Vocab--prodigy. Wrote in our planners and did a SSR check. Characterized Mulan as a class (discussing both her physical and behavioral traits) and then continued to watch and discuss the movie. HW: Mulan packet is due WED (UW) and a binder check on WED. 

Friday, Sept 7: Vocab--turmoil. Continued to watch and discuss Mulan as a review. HW: Have your SSR book by Monday! (DW)

Thursday, Sept 6: Vocab: analyze, finished highlighting and discussing review packet. Began watching and analyzing Mulan HW: Signed syllabus (pink) and SSR reading contract (yellow) due Friday (UW)
