“The plain fact is that the planet does not need more successful people. But it does desperately need more peacemakers, healers, restorers, storytellers, and lovers of every kind. It needs people who live well in their places. It needs people of moral courage willing to join the fight to make the world habitable and human.” (David Orr, What is Education For?) My goal as an educator is to help students discover who they are and who they want to be by giving them opportunities to experience.

About Miss Mehrkens:
I am so excited to be teaching 6th grade again this year! I began teaching 13 years ago at Sibley Elementary after graduating from the University of Wisconsin River Falls. I received my master’s of education through Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota in 2003. I love hiking, biking, kayaking, birding, agate picking…anything outdoors. This passion was fostered even more with my year teaching and learning at Wolf Ridge Environmental Learning Center in 2009-2010. In my free time you might find me walking in the Arb with my dog, Fin.
6th Grade Writing course content has migrated to Schoology.
