Welcome to 8th grade Geoscience.
Get ready to have a great year in science.
Keep in mind that the most destructive power in the universe is gossip.
What students and parents need to know.
Students should be keeping a notebook current with what we are doing in class, notes from power points, videos, readings and overheads. All tests and quizzes are open notes. Notebooks, study guides and investigations/experiments may be used when taking a test or a quiz. The notebook and its organization therefore is a valuable tool. There should also be a science (investigation/experiment) notebook. This notebook should be a composition notebook and reserved for science investigations and their write-ups throughout the year.
Science notebook. What every investigation write-up should include:
P/P/C is a simple way to look at writing up your investigations.
Data Analysis: Charts, Graphs, Tables, Math Calculations, Diagrams, Drawings, Field Sketches, all leading to conclusions.
Conclusions: What did you learn?
(Also see link to science notebooks for more in formation)
Attention Students and Parents:
There is a study/help session every Wednesday from 3:00 to 4:00 pm There will college students, teachers, and other adults available to work individually or with small groups on problems they may be having with the Earth Science concepts we are studying. This is an excellent opportunity for students who have missed some class time due to illness or other reasons to get caught up. I am also available at other times after school as well upon request.
There are “Pre-Test Study Sessions” after school before major chapter tests. Past tests on the subject will be made available for students to study from. They may study individually or in small groups and I will be available to answer questions about the subject matter. These sessions will run from 3:00-3:45 pm.
