 | 1) | Q | What Can I do to ease my child's anxieties about school? |  | A | Here are a few suggestions:
-Give your child a family picture to bring to school. He or she can hang this up in his/her locker. It will be reassuring to be able to "see" you during the first weeks of school
-To ease worries about where to go after school, please let us know as soon as possible what mode of transportation your child will be using at the end of the day (walk, bus, pick up... You can indicate this information on the emergency forms. -If there are any concerns you have, please feel free to contact me. E-mail, phone calls and notes are a great way to do this. |

| | 2) | Q | How can I contact Mrs. Cade? | | | A | The BEST time to reach me is between 7:35-8:15 a.m. If you must call during the school day, please call the office and leave a voice mail message (664-3300). I will check my e'mail twice a day (before/after school). Writing a note on your child's Daily Communication Sheet is also a great option. I check these right away each morning. | | 3) | Q | What are the visitor and volunteer procedures? | | | A | Visitors and volunteers are ALWAYS welcome at Bridgewater. If you'd like to spend some time in your child's classroom, I'd like to know in advance so I can integrate you into our activities (as a helper). Volunteering on a regular basis is a great way to get involved. Let me know if you are interested in being a regular volunteer. Don't forget to sign in at the office before going to visit or volunteer in any room or hallway. Thank you! |

| | 4) | Q | I would like to be a Bridgewater volunteer. How do I sign up? | | | A | There are many opportunities to volunteer at Bridgewater. Whether it's an hour per year or an hour per week, your involvement is important and appreciated. A volunteer form will be sent home so we can find out what kind of volunteer opportunities you are interested in. |

| | 5) | Q | What are the procedures if I drop-off or pick-up my child from school? | | | A | If you are a parent/guardian that drives your child(ren) to school or picks them up after school, please keep the following guidelines in mind: You may wait in your car for your child in the pick up/drop off lane by the front entrance of the school. Children are NOT allowed to cross the parking lot without an adult. You may not drop off your child at any location other than the BW pick up/drop off area. There will be a parking lot supervisor - be respectful of her and follow her directions. Your cooperation is VERY much appreciated and helps keep EVERY CHILD safe! |

| | 6) | Q | What if I need to reach my child during school hours? | | | A | Please plan ahead regarding after school plans to keep student messages to emergencies or sudden change of plans. Please call the office BEFORE 10:30 p.m.; notes are delivered to classrooms at that time. |

| | 7) | Q | If I am visiting the school, where do I park? | | | A | All staff and parents use the east drive. ONLY buses may enter the north parking lot next to Jefferson Parkway and ONLY service delivery trucks may enter the west drive. Children are not permitted to go into the parking lot unless accompanied by an adult. Please keep traffic flowing in one lane even if it means circling the parking lot once or more. |

| | 9 ) | Q | What are your attendance procedures? | | | A | The first bell rings at 8:20 a.m. and the second rings at 8:25 a.m. If your child is not at school by 8:25 a.m., he/she must check into the office for a tardy slip. If your student will be absent or tardy, please call our attendance line at 664-3306. This line is answered 24 hours a day, so you may leave a message as soon as you know your child will not be coming to school. Please do not send your child to school if he/she is ill. A child must be fever-free for 24 hours before returning to school. (A fever is considered 100F or higher.) If you have questions about whether or not to send your child to school, please call the school nurse at 664-3305. |

| | 10) | Q | My child does not live with both parents - can the Bridgewater Newsletter and report cards be sent to both parents? | | | A | Yes. Parents may request a duplicate copy of the newsletter to be mailed to a separate address by calling the Bridgewater office at 664.3300. |

| | 11) | Q | Will there be a snack time during the day? | | | A | Yes, milk is provided daily at no charge to each child. Your child may also choose to bring a HEALTHY snack from home. If you need ideas of what to send, please let me know and I can help you with this. |

| | 12) | Q | Will there be homework in kindergarten? | | | A | Homework, in the traditional sense, will not be sent home. It is my opinion that homework is developmentally NOT appropriate for kindergartners. However, I will be sending home other activities several times a week for your child to do at home with a parent, babysitter, grandparent, etc.
-BOOK IN A BAG: Book-in-a-Bag is an at-home reading program that helps children learn how reading a book works and eventually leads to actually reading the book. The books are generally very short and has predictable text. BIB will be sent home several times a week depending on volunteer scheduling.
-BOOK SACKS: Your child will also have the opportunity to take home "Book Sacks" throughout the school year. These small canvas sacks have a board-book version of a favorite book from our classroom library. Along with the book is a short, fun activity for you to do with your child. It is a way to bring quality literature into all of the homes. |

| | 13) | Q | What is the typical schedule in the kindergarten classroom? | | | A | A more detailed schedule will soon be added, but for the meantime, here's a general layout of the typical kindergarten day: - Morning Meeting: Students arrive and sit on the carpet. We will talk about the calendar, weather, count the number of days we've been in school, sing songs, count, read a story and read a "morning message" from Mrs. Cade.
- Snack Break: Each day, students will receive a snack break. Milk is provided at no cost and students are invited to bring a HEALTHY snack from home if he/she chooses.
- Stations: A great time to volunteer! Students will be broken into 4 small ability-based groups to rotate through 3 language-arts based acitivities throughout the week.
- Math Block: Students will have a daily math block which might include a whole group lesson, math game, or small group activities.
- Media (1x/week). This will be on Thursday's.
- Choice Time: During this time, students can freely choose to play in the classroom. (We will not have time for this everyday.)
- Recess: During this time, students can play outside on the equipment or in group games that I will plan. (We will not have time for this everyday.)
- Writer's Workshop: Eventually, we will incorporate a "Writer's Workshop" into our weekly routine.
- Wrap-Up: Before we go home for the day, we'll make a list of things we did during the day and say goodbye to our friends!
