"In "Power of Reading," his meta-analysis of research investigating independent reading over the past forty years, Stephen Krashen reveals that no single literacy activity has a more positive effect on students' comprehension, vocabulary knowledge, spelling, writing ability, and overall academic achievement than free voluntary reading."
~Donalyn Miller, author of "The Book Whisperer."

Reading Homework

Reading is the cornerstone of Language Arts instruction. In fifth grade, we read a lot! We read during Reading Workshop time and we read for homework. Students are expected to read 150 minutes per week at home.

Spelling Homework

The spelling lists for the entire year have been handed out to students and should be kept in binders.  We will go through the lists in numerical order, testing each Friday as long as there are 4-5 school days that week.  All lists are posted on Spellingcity.com, which is great way for students to practice their words.
